Mammut Teton GTX (2012)

This is a well-padded yet stiff and protective boot suited to a wide range of terrain. The generous amount of space inside will suit those with slightly wider feet – there’s a bit more room around the heel especially – while generous amounts of foam extend up the ankle. The sole unit is fairly stiff and provides a stable platform over prolonged use. Shock absorption is also good, with a PU midsole helping to even out the bumps. And there is a pleasant rocker to the sole, which helps propel you on to the next step. This great performance on harder terrain slacks a little on soft ground though, and the relatively shallow tread pattern is not the greatest in mud. On rough rock and stone, however, these are great. Your feet will remain remarkably well-protected on rocky ground, with a tough toe rand at the front and a heel counter protecting the back.
