Mammut Scout GTX

Quite a broad boot and less padding than most tested so doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as some when first pulled on. It doesn’t take long to soften, though, and it soon moulds around the foot, providing the fit’s right. It’s quite low at the ankle and it is lacking in a decent locking eyelet, making it harder to eliminate toe-bang – a real problem for those with narrower feet. The midsole is semi-stiff – ideal for all-round walking – but the outsole didn’t grip as well as some on softer ground.
