Mammut MT Trail GTX

These are very narrow, so definitely need trying carefully before buying, but they’re lovely all-round walking boots that are tough enough to handle the rough stuff high up, but not too stiff and clumpy for easier going. The nubuck leather seems almost unaffected by knocks and scratches, and the Gore-Tex liner kept water at bay. The Vibram sole has quite a deep tread but actually feels better on rock than it does on mud, and does well on both; and the offset eyelet on the lacing makes it possible to vary tension between foot and ankle cuff – ideal for getting a really stable fit. A good looking boot that will appeal to a wide range of walkers.
