Slip these multi-activity shoes on, and the space for your big toes is unprecedented. Furthermore, the sole rubber wraps around the toe box to offer fantastic toe protection. The Targhee has a waterproof lining provided by eVent, while the upper is a blend of leather and synthetics for good durability. The lace loops benefit from reflective trim, which makes these glow under car headlights (a feature that’s ideal for evening walkers, biking and even camping). The upper is a substantial design that protects the foot from knocks and supports it on uneven terrain. Underfoot you get excellent cushioning and stiffness, to take the pounding out of hard surfaces and rocky paths, plus 4mm multi-directional lugs to provide grip in mud. The result is a shoe that is exceptionally comfortable and feels just right for walking over rough terrain.
The Targhee Low is a little ‘clumpier’ than some others, so it’s not ideal for fast action or scrambling, but it could be your favourite depending on what you want to wear it for. Some shoes have a deeper heel breast, adding braking power on descents. Other shoes here are lighter. But do you need a waterproof lining?
