Italian brand Aku have gone bonkers for colour this season, perhaps figuring we all want to go back to 1985. I quite like this day-glo model, but if the colours repel you, be assured it also comes in more muted tones. The Nuvola is a rough, tough yomper with a robust outsole that tackles hill paths and boggy marsh with ease. It has a slightly higher volume than most shoes in its class; that’s good if your foot is chunky or if you like to use insoles. There’s a Gore-Tex membrane, a Vibram outsole, tough rubber toecap and Italian leather along the edge. I also like the lacing, which comes right down to the toe to ensure a good fit and plenty of flex. It’s a careful enough blend of toughness and comfort to rival the Salomon shoe – and if you want your footwear to be
a talking point, look no further. But if you really love the colour scheme,
will you ever want to get it muddy?
