Helly Hansen Beck Lite 2010

The Helly Hansen Beck Lite is a lighter version of the Beck II, saving some 100g for a size 11 pair. The sandal is synthetic throughout so it is fast-drying and therefore suitable for use in and around water. There is a heel, ankle and forefoot strap with Velcro adjustment on the front two straps only. Good padding on the straps adds welcome comfort to the top of the foot. The sole is much stiffer than other sandals, making this good for rocky terrain, and forest walks where tree roots emerge from the ground. The outsole also has a good lug pattern for keeping a grip on softer terrain such as muddy campsites. The straps offer slightly more protection than some other sandals, so the foot is a little more protected. The weight, price and performance are all good for outdoor use. But in terms of maximum comfort some others have an edge over the Beck Lite, as the sole unit is not well-cushioned. There is no adjustment at the heel either, which is offered in many other sandals, so the fit needs to be carefully checked before you part with any cash.

The Helly Hansen Beck Lite is a good sandal with great support and grip for general outdoor use, but others offer more cushioning for harder surfaces.
